Husky Accessories

When picking the best accessories for huskies, the options are almost endless. Dog parents know what I am talking about when saying that having and caring for a pet brings so much joy, fulfillment, and satisfaction. At the same time, it’s your responsibility as the primary caregiver of your canine friend to feed, bathe, and provide all the necessary husky accessories.

Play & Exercise Supplies

Huskies are high-energy dogs. They need to play and exercise a lot. Here are some recommendations regarding appropriate accessories, such as toys and teething items.

Dog Toys

Some of the best dog toys for huskies are those that challenge your canine friends, improving their physical and mental development. My number one rule is always to pick safe toys for my pet that won’t harm it in any way.

There are different types of dog toys you can choose from, the most common ones being interactive and comfort toys:

  • Comfort toy accessories – squeaky toys, plush items, lick mats, blankets, etc.;
  • Interactive toys – feeders, dog puzzles, flip boards, snuffle balls, etc.

Soft plush toys can be great choices if your husky is gentle. Otherwise, you should buy more robust accessories. Fluffy blankets and plush toys have a fantastic effect on anxious dogs. To protect your husky, you should remove any damaged toys as soon as possible.

Just like us humans, huskies can also get bored with their things. Hence, make sure to rotate your pet’s toys. That way, your furry companion will perceive them as exciting and engaging for a more extended period.

Teething Toys

 From birth until age two, husky puppies tend to chew on almost everything. It’s natural and normal, but you should give them the best accessories to avoid them destroying your furniture.

When buying teething toys for husky puppies, you must consider various flavors, textures, sizes, materials, and shapes. These items provide dental pain relief and promote dental health.

Some of these toys are made of rubber, while others are fabricated from cotton. Younger puppies should chew on softer teething toys like cotton products. Still, most pet owners opt for chew toys made of rubber due to their higher durability. Regardless of your choice, look for those alternatives that are pet-safe in terms of fabric.

Training & Walking Accessories

Leashes and harnesses are a must when you take your husky for a walk or even when you train your pet. I, for one, prefer harnesses instead of leashes because they cover a wider area of the dog’s body and are more comfortable for your pooch.

Husky Dog Harnesses

Instead of collars, I recommend using a dog harness, which takes some pressure off your husky’s neck. A husky dog harness also offers pet parents extra control during leash training or walking.

There are many dog harnesses: front and back clips, over-the-head models, step-in variations, vests, straps, and more. If your husky pulls on its leash, you could opt for a front-attachment harness.

First, measure your dog’s body to ensure you purchase a well-fitting harness. The best harness for husky dogs allows your pet to move its neck and shoulders freely.

Comfort and safety come first. However, when buying a dog harness for Siberian husky pooches, you should also consider the harness’s adjustability and durability.

Compared to collars, harnesses are more comfortable for dogs, being the ideal choice for huskies dealing with back pain or other related issues. On the other hand, during hot summer months, your puppy might not like to wear a harness

Husky Collars

Personally, I don’t recommend using collars, and many vets share my opinion. When used incorrectly, these accessories might have harmful long-term effects on your dog’s neck. But, if you do use a collar, pick one that keeps your canine safe, comfortable, and secure.

The collar’s material and size are some of the most important aspects. While nylon dog collars are durable and affordable, a leather option is safer and more enjoyable to wear. Despite their higher prices, leather collars are also highly adjustable.
The size must be perfect for your husky: not too loose, but not too tight. You don’t want it to slip off easily. If it’s too tight and your dog pulls on it a lot, it might lead to a suffocation hazard. The proper size will also help your furry companion avoid potential skin irritations.

Collars, unlike harnesses, give increased control over your dog, especially during training. They’re also easier to put on or take off.

Your Husky’s Activity Level

Most huskies are very active, so they need a higher calorie intake. Their food should also contain plenty of protein, which keeps their muscles strong and gives them the proper energy.

That being said, less active huskies should follow a lower-calorie diet and eat meals with a lower protein content to maintain an optimal weight.

My Criteria for Selecting the Best Food for Huskies

Picking the best food for your husky could be time-consuming and frustrating, and I say that based on my personal experience. However, you’ll know what to select and avoid once you research the most popular products on the market regarding prices, reputation, availability, and quality.

Husky Leashes

For those of you who use harnesses for your huskies, the best leash is a double-ended one. This comes in handy for robust dogs that pull a lot. Dog leashes are an easy and effective method of handling and teaching your husky different commands. They can also prevent your pet from chasing other animals on the street or running into the road in front of cars. There are standard dog leashes, retractable ones, adjustable models, Martingale leashes, chains, etc.

In terms of materials, you will find leather, nylon, reflective, and chain leashes. Husky’s parents can also decide on this dog accessory’s clip style and width. For training purposes, leather leashes are better, whereas leather and nylon varieties work great for everyday use.

Dog Crates

Some might confuse dog crates with cages. Let me tell you, these two are not the same. Crates can be used as safety props or husky training solutions. Crate training is essential to your pet parenting because it teaches your husky how to behave inside your home. These items can also be used to potty train your pet. First, find a proper crate that fits your pooch’s size. Then, choose your desired material. I would go with wood, but metal or plastic will do just fine.

There are collapsible crates, soft-sided ones, and many other variations. As long as your husky feels comfortable inside the crate, that’s all that really matters! Remember to rely on positive reinforcement when using crates for dog training, but I will discuss this in another article.

Feeding Accessories

In addition to the most popular ones (feeding bowls), you should also have dog food storage containers, placemats, slow feeders, automatic feeders, water bowls, and a travel bowl.

Your husky doesn’t ask for much except being fed, loved, and cared for. That requires you to pick at least one food bowl for your companion. You can choose from various options, including ceramic, stainless steel, and melamine bowls.

The most hygienic and long-lasting ones are made of stainless steel. The size of the bowl varies based on how big your husky is. If your canine friend likes to eat quickly and rush its food, you should opt for a slow feeder. Also, if the bowl you already have lacks a non-slip base, you could use a placemat underneath it.
There are even feeding bowls with an adjustable height so your husky will feel comfortable eating. Collapsable bowls work amazingly as travel items. You could buy two of them, one for food and the other for water

Grooming Supplies

Dog grooming isn’t just about looks; it’s also about keeping your husky well-maintained and healthy. I’m sure its well-being matters to all of you who love your pet. Grooming makes it easier to keep your pooch clean and monitor its health.

Here’s a list of the husky grooming tools all dog parents should own:

  • Dog shampoo and conditioner;
  • Combs and brushes;
  • Nail clippers;
  • Ear cleaners;
  • Toothpaste and toothbrush;
  •  Dryer and towels;
  • Optionally, a grooming table and a grooming apron.
Since your husky has unique features, these supplies must be bought carefully. For instance, the best brush for husky dogs should have slick, fine bristles that can reach underneath your pet’s top coat to reduce shedding.

Home Care Supplies

Home care items such as beds, blankets, toys, and others should be on your shopping list when you become a husky parent.

Dog Beds

When searching for a husky dog bed, you’ll find many shapes and sizes. First and foremost, think about where you will place the bed; it should be in a warm and draft-free space in your house. Nighttime dog beds should be set somewhere quiet so that your furry friend can rest soundly.

There are numerous types of dog beds:

  • Orthopedic bed, made with memory foam – great for senior huskies;
  • Heated dog beds – for arthritic canines or senior dogs because it soothes them;
  • Waterproof beds – besides being an excellent option for the outdoors, where your pet can easily get muddy or wet, these beds are also a safe choice if your pooch is prone to accidents;
  • Doughnut beds – perfect for huskies that like to curl when they sleep or those with anxiety;
  • Washable beds – easy to clean and maintain;
  • Cave or tent-shaped beds – this bed type gives your pet a sense of seclusion, safety, and extra protection, being covered;
  • Elevated beds—These can be used indoors or outdoors. They are ideal for huskies that need extra support or those who tend to overheat quickly
Size and durability also matter. For instance, if your husky is still a puppy, you might like to choose a bed made of sturdy materials and covered in waterproof liners. Senior huskies might need orthopedic memory foam beds, while larger pets require a bigger bed surface with a more supportive mattress.

Dog Blankets

It’s crucial to find a cuddly and comfy dog blanket that makes your husky feel cozy and relaxed. Some pet blankets have two sides and special materials that eliminate odors. Just like in the case of dog beds, you should consider aspects like size, texture, fabrics, durability, and ease of cleaning when purchasing blankets.

Many of them are made of fleece, which is soft and warm. However, I prefer cotton due to its more versatile characteristics. If you want something more luxurious, you should try microsuede dog blankets. However, those made of terry fabric are more absorbent.
To save yourself some trouble, opt for a machine-washable blanket. The best choice should be practical, comfortable, durable, easy to clean, large enough to fit your husky, safe, and made of non-toxic materials.

If possible, a few extra features would be ideal: supportive foam layers, additional padding, plush layers, and other covers that help regulate your pet’s body temperature.

Additional Accessories

In many situations, beds, bowls, leashes, and all the other husky accessories I’ve detailed so far aren’t enough. Identity tags and first aid kits are essential to protect your furry friend. Effective vacuums are a must to remove any unwanted hairs. And clothing items might be a whim, but hey, who am I to judge? 😊

Identity Tags

Placing an identity tag around your husky’s neck, connected to its collar, is the first defense to protect you from losing your dog. It shows others that your pooch has a loving family that cares for him. More importantly, if you add your phone number to the tag, the person who finds a lost dog can get in touch and return it safely.

First Aid Kits

  • Pet thermometer;
  • Blunt-end scissors;
  • Oral syringes without needles;
  • Emergency blankets;
  • Tweezers;
  • Swabs and cotton balls;
  • Saline eyewash;
  • Medical tape and bandages;
  • Antibiotic ointment;
  • An emergency contact card;
  • Styptic powder;
  • Probiotics;
  • Pet cleaning wipes;
  • Hydrogen peroxide;
  • Benadryl – used only under your vet’s guidance;
  • Foldable pet stretchers;
  • Dog carrier;

Clothing Items

Normally, huskies have thick fur and don’t need clothes to keep them warm. Still, some might appreciate an additional layer, especially during frigid weather. While these Northern dogs can face the cold weather without any problems, they also enjoy more cozy environments and a snuggly feeling, which cleverly chosen clothes might offer.

Vacuums

The best vacuum for dog hair must have powerful suction to eliminate all the hair from your house surfaces. I prefer a lightweight vacuum because my upper body strength is weak.

I strongly suggest a product with HEPA filters to avoid any allergic triggers. They track and suck up microscopic allergens. To keep your house clean and free of dog hair, pick an option with a sealed system
